Because I’m feeling opinionated today:
I’m not going to lie. I watch reality shows. But not many. I stick with mainly two: The Real Housewives of Orange County and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. What can I say? I have a weakness for watching rich, pampered women getting into dramatic arguments go shopping and well… get pampered. I pretty much the draw the reality t.v. show watching line there, though.
I know there are a lot of really pointless, stupid, seriously who watches that crap type of shows out there, but the one I can’t find any good in is the Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant shows.
I know the producers probably originally wanted to shine a light on how hard it is to be a teen mom and all the trials and tribulations that come along with that, but in my opinion, they failed. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t done any type of “scientific survey” or “study” on this topic. It’s just common sense in my own head.
I’ve only watched a couple of episodes of the shows, and frankly, that’s all you need. These girls are on the covers of Us Weekly and In Touch.. they are on gossip websites and in the news, they are on a t.v. show for petes sake! They are everywhere- and to me, that is glamorizing the situation.
Teens are very impressionable and although the show depicts the tough situations, teens also see these girls getting their 15 minutes of fame and geez- all that had to do was get knocked up and Voila! Instant fame sleeze.
It just kind of makes me sick that these shows even exist. That’s why I don’t watch. I just hope the young girls that do are getting the right message.
And that, my friends, is my super enlightening opinion of the day.
