Last night was Braxtyn’s first gymnastics class and let me tell ya- he absolutely loved it. I signed him up for a 6 week parent/tot class. With it being winter and being stuck inside the house the majority of the week I thought it would be a good idea to find something to do that gets him out and burning some crazy, toddler energy!

He did better than I thought he would on the balance beams. Great, actually. There were three of them- the highest being about 3 feet off the ground and he barely held onto my fingers as he put one foot in front of the other and walked the whole length, keeping his balance the entire time! Pshh, he didn’t even need me.

His favorite was the trampoline. He’s been into jumping on his bed lately and as soon as he figured out what the trampoline was all about he had a blast.

I was a tiny bit nervous at first because Braxtyn is usually shy around strangers, and the instructor was obviously a stranger. I was pretty shocked but happy when she called him over to show him how to do a somersault, and he went running over to her. Big boy.

Anyway, it was a success and we can’t wait for next week!

Trash t.v.

23 Jan

Because I’m feeling opinionated today:

I’m not going to lie. I watch reality shows. But not many.  I stick with mainly two: The Real Housewives of Orange County and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. What can I say? I have a weakness for watching rich, pampered women getting into dramatic arguments go shopping and well… get pampered. I pretty much the draw the reality t.v. show watching line there, though.

I know there are a lot of really pointless, stupid, seriously who watches that crap type of shows out there, but the one I can’t find any good in is the Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant shows.

I know the producers probably originally wanted to shine a light on how hard it is to be a teen mom and all the trials and tribulations that come along with that, but in my opinion, they failed. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t done any type of “scientific survey” or “study” on this topic. It’s just common sense in my own head.

I’ve only watched a couple of episodes of the shows, and frankly, that’s all you need. These girls are on the covers of Us Weekly and In Touch.. they are on gossip websites and in the news, they are on a t.v. show for petes sake! They are everywhere- and to me, that is glamorizing the situation.

Teens are very impressionable and although the show depicts the tough situations, teens also see these  girls getting their 15 minutes of fame and geez- all that had to do was get knocked up and Voila! Instant fame sleeze.

It just kind of makes me sick that these shows even exist. That’s why I don’t watch. I just hope the young girls that do are getting the right message.

And that, my friends, is my super enlightening opinion of the day.

1. Where do you hide the reeeally good snacks?
The store! Hah, we usually don’t keep much snack food in the house, it’s too easy to just mindlessly snack all day if it’s around. Tortilla chips & popcorn is pretty much the extent of what we always keep on hand. Once in a while when I do buy something extremely delish and want to hide it from my husband… well… I can’t reveal that hiding place. He might be reading this ;)

2. Do u keep your vehicle clean or am I the only one who has things falling out of their van?
Since I got my “new” SUV in July, I’ve kept it clean. When I knew I was going to be getting a newer vehicle, I started to not care about keeping my car clean and kinda let it get messy, but that definitely won’t happen with this one- especially since I like to think of it as a present from my dad <3

3. Have you ever been to Vegas?
No, and I don’t really have any desire to go. I’m kind of past the whole “party all night” phase in my life and umm, what else do you really do in Vegas besides get into trouble and gamble??

4. Warm room light blankets or cold room warm snuggly blanket?
Warm room, light blankets. I haaaaate being in a cold room, even if I do have blankets to keep me warm. & I’m also one of those weirdos that no matter how hot the room is, I always have to have a blanket on me- otherwise something could “get me”. Haha!

5. What is the worst airplane/flying experience you’ve ever had?
I haven’t traveled very much, Mexico a couple of times and here and there to different states, but *knock on wood* I haven’t had any bad experiences.

Things you never thought you’d do..

15 Jan

..as a parent:

I have a whole, long list of these. Things that I swore I would never do. Things that you end up doing because you’re a mother and now you have to. Things that you do and then you shake your head & think, “Why in the world did I just do that?!”

That last instance is my confession right now.

I’m reading the book, “Life Is Not a Reality Show”, by Kyle Richards. Unless you follow The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills t.v. series, or are obsessed with Paris Hilton’s family tree (Kyle’s her aunt), then you probably won’t know who she is. Let’s just say she’s really rich, lives in Beverly Hills, and is actually really real for having grown up there all her life. She has 4 daughters- her youngest is 3 years old- & I’m kinda really starting to like her a lot. She’s funny and smart and really down to earth.

Anyway, back to my story, I was reading her book and came across this piece about her talking of how she has a hard time not snacking on food, especially with having kids. She says she’s always eating their leftovers and cutting the crust off their sandwiches and eating that. Then she goes on to say how, “One day I was getting things out of the car and I found a french fry on the floorboard and I just popped it into my mouth. I thought, What is wrong with me?

Ohmygosh, I almost peed my pants at that. Not because I couldn’t believe some woman who is  a millionaire would eat one of her kids old, dirty french fries from the car floor; but because I did something kinda similar the other day.

I can’t remember exactly what I was eating, some kind of pasta… but I was sitting on the couch and Braxtyn came up to me and wanted a bite to try. I gave him a noodle and he had it in his mouth for a few seconds and then started to make a face. I didn’t have a napkin for him to spit it back into, and if you’re not quick he will just spit it out onto the couch or floor, so I held out my hand. The next thing I know, I pop it into my mouth.

What!

I’m thinking, “What the hell did I just do?”

I mean, I didn’t have anywhere to put it, ya know. Ha! I just couldn’t believe I did that. It’s something I didn’t think I would do in a million years. & this is coming from a girl who won’t share her ice cream with her husband because she doesn’t want him licking off the same spoon. Figure that one out!

Night time observation

9 Jan

It’s only taken me like 2 years to notice, but whatevs.

We read Goodnight Moon to Braxtyn every night before bed. If you look closely, the objects on each page move around; such as the balloon floating through the room, the moon moving positions, the kittens and mouse, etc.

The bunny also moves around on the bed as the story is going on. On one page, I noticed how cute he looks in this one:

He’s turned around, telling the bears in the chairs goodnight, & then the next picture is all-

“Rabbit in the Fetal Position”

Like what the hell? Does he have a phobia of clocks? Or maybe it’s the socks that has him all on edge?  It’s just kind of bizarre to me. Or maybe I over thought this one? Perhaps I just have too much time on my hands. Maybe I had too much coffee this evening? I just found it slightly disturbing for some reason. I’m gonna go contemplate this as I pour myself another cup of java.

1. What is the weather like where you are and do you like it?
It is freakishly unseasonable. Aka, 30′s, 40′s, and today, it’s supposed to hit 51. What! January in Michigan usually consists of temps in the 20′s and teens with snow. & lots of it. Do I like it? Yes. Buuuuut, I have a feeling when it’s actually supposed to be spring, we will have tons of snow.

2. When you’re sick what do you seek comfort from?
My bed and my awesome husband who always does a good job taking care of me when I don’t feel good. Kinda like how I’m still sick (after 2 weeks!! Grrr.) & instead of being miserable in my comfy bed, I’m miserable at work…. oh who am I kidding? We all know with a 2 year old there’s no such thing as being sick and in bed :-P

3. What do you need to do before the end of the month?
Schedule my appointment to get my wisdom teeth out. Sooooo not looking forward to that. I’m getting all 4 out because I don’t want to have to go through this ever again. Blah.

4. Have you ever served on a jury?
Nope. Not sure I would be a good choice either- seeing as how I am so indecisive about everything.

5. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
A bird. Not sure what kind. A pretty one that can fly really high, probably.
